About This Quote

Catulus is a Roman philosopher who admonished people to concentrate on things that are not in their power rather than forever fretting over things that are. He also advised people to treat their friends with respect, even if they did not like them. Catulus believed in the power of friendship and in his philosophy he stated that in order for a friend to be able to provide sound advice, they must be willing to give it. Essentially, he was saying that if you are providing advice to your friend, then they must be willing to accept it.
